On Saturday, Liverpool’s Premier League campaign kicks off against Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta at Anfield, and manager Jurgen Klopp could face a number of selection headaches.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could be without three crucial players for Saturday’s Premier League match against Arsenal.
Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson were both injured on international duty and were forced to return home, joining Roberto Firmino in the treatment room.
Henderson scored a goal and played the entire 90 minutes in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Albania on Friday.
He has returned to his club, along with Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, for additional assessment of an unidentified ailment.
Meanwhile, Mane limped out of Senegal’s 1-1 tie with Togo on Thursday, despite his international boss Aliou Cisse describing his injury as “nothing significant.”
Cisse said to the press: “He is a crucial member of the team. We brought him out as a precaution, and nothing bad has happened.”
Klopp will be hoping that both Henderson and Mane recover from their injuries in time to face Arsenal in what promises to be a crucial match.
Arsenal, led by Mikel Arteta, are only two points behind Liverpool in the Premier League and haven’t lost a game since August.
When asked about his team’s performance, Arteta said: “I sense a strong sense of camaraderie among the players at the club.
I can see the players getting eager to play at the Emirates the day before a match, and the bench players are itching to get in.”
After a 3-2 defeat to West Ham in the final game before the international break, the Reds will be anxious to get back on track.
After suffering a “severe” hamstring injury during Liverpool’s recent Champions League triumph over Atletico Madrid, Firmino will definitely miss the encounter.
He could be sidelined until Christmas, according to reports.
“Losing Bobby Firmino is a blow,” Klopp told reporters. I don’t think I need to describe its size. It’s a life-threatening injury.
“When we talk about weeks, I consider anything longer than four to be a significant injury.” Then we’ll have to wait and see. Bobby has a remarkable ability to mend quickly.”
Harvey Elliott, a long-term absentee, will also miss the game against Arsenal, while James Milner (hamstring), Naby Keita (hamstring), and Curtis Jones (scratched eye) are all doubts.
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has stated that the club wants to compete in all four tournaments this season, therefore Klopp will need his injured players to heal quickly.
According to Liverpool FC magazine, the Brazilian said: “To be honest, it’s about more than [the Premier League].
We’re hungry for more.” Of course, we aim to win every competition we enter. We want to win the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and any other event in which we are eligible.”
For a team like ours, this should be the objective and the target for everyone. However, we must tackle each game one at a time and remain completely concentrated on our tasks in order to complete them to the best of our abilities.”
