Manchester City have set their sights on RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku, who is in fine form.

This season, the French striker has been in outstanding form for the Bundesliga club, scoring 11 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions.

His superb finishing was on display during Leipzig’s 6-3 defeat at the Etihad in September, when he scored a hat-trick.

And getting a firsthand look at Nkunku’s ability appears to have sparked action among City’s powerbrokers.

The Sun reports that the reigning Premier League champions have gotten ahead of other prominent European teams in their pursuit of the 23-year-old. They are prepared to initiate negotiations and have made an approach about the striker’s availability, despite the fact that his current contract contains no buy-out clause.

Nkunku, who has five assists in his Bundesliga outings, has been linked with Real Madrid, Juventus, and his old club Paris Saint-Germain.

This year, Nkunku has caught the spotlight in Germany, with former international captain and Bayern Munich legend Philipp Lahm praising his performances. ‘He has such wonderful offensive actions, and it’s just fun to watch,’ he told Bild earlier this month. The most important thing is to play football consistently, which is why I hope he can maintain that level of play in the coming weeks and months.’
