Jorginho scored two penalties in the Champions League champions’ 4-0 victory over the Swedish team at Stamford Bridge, while Andreas Christensen and Kai Havertz also scored.
Hudson-Odoi, meanwhile, came on in the first half to replace Timo Werner, who was injured, and put in a strong performance on the left side. Tuchel has given the 20-year-old minimal playing time this season, with only two Premier League games, and has also played him out of position as a right wing-back. However, following Hudson-performance Odoi’s against Malmo, Chelsea boss admitted that the winger is better suited to a more advanced role on the opposite flank.
‘I know this is his greatest position,’ Tuchel said on beIN Sports. ‘Sometimes he needs to fill in as a right wing-back, so he must do it for the team,’ says the coach, ‘but we know the half-left position up front is his best.’
Chelsea’s success over Malmo was marred by injuries to both Werner and Romelu Lukaku. Hudson-Odoi, on the other hand, could potentially be given a chance to start in Chelsea’s Premier League match against Norwich City on Saturday. ‘Of course, we’re unhappy,’ Tuchel added. ‘We are never satisfied because we like to have the entire squad, and the two guys up front are dangerous and decisive for us.’ But these things happen, therefore we must now try to develop ways to avoid them. However, we are pleased with the overall performance and victory.’
Following Chelsea’s Champions League win over Malmo on Wednesday, Thomas Tuchel believes Callum Hudson-best Odoi’s position is on the left side of the attack.
