After scoring 41 Bundesliga goals for Bayern Munich,
Robert Lewandowski has been awarded the European Golden Shoe for 2020-21.
The honor is given to the top goal scorer in all European domestic leagues.
After Bayern icon Gerd Muller in 1971-72,
is only the second German-based player to win it.
“I dedicate this prize to all of the people that stand by my side every day,
” he stated.
the Polish striker’s tally was the greatest since Cristiano Ronaldo won the trophy with Real Madrid in 2015 after scoring 48 goals.
In his 29 Bundesliga outings,
Lewandowski handily surpassed Lionel Messi (30) and Cristiano Ronaldo (29) combined.
Messi has won the accolade six times previously,
with Ciro Immobile and Luis Suarez both finishing first.
“I’d like to express my gratitude to my family, teammates,
the coaching staff,
and FC Bayern as a whole.
Without their help,
I wouldn’t be able to win titles like these “Lewandowski added.
“It’s critical in sports, as much as in life, to value one another,
to encourage one another, to always be fair to one another,
and to try to be a role model for others. I’m quite proud of what we’ve accomplished as a group.”
