Arsenal fans are in shock as Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey exited the field injured in the first half of Sunday’s 2-1 pre-season loss to Chelsea.
Following a challenge from Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech, the 28-year-day old’s at Emirates Stadium ended in disappointment when he sustained what appeared to be an ankle injury.
He was quickly replaced by Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka, amid concerns that he will miss the Premier League’s first match against Brentford in two weeks.
It’s yet another setback for the Ghanaian, whose debut season at Arsenal was hampered by injury after a huge move from Atletico Madrid last summer.
We’ll have to wait and see, but the fact that a scan is even required is a concerning sign.
Partey had also been very impressive in the first half, which was a promising indication heading into the new season, but it now appears that he will miss the first few weeks.
Keep your fingers crossed that it isn’t as horrible as it appears.
