Press release. 3rd July 2021.
ANCHORING DEMOCRACY ADVOCACY MOVEMENT GHANA (ADAM-GH) BACKS NDC MARCH FOR JUSTICE DEMONSTRATION ON TUESDAY.
The Executive committee of Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana (ADAM-GH) fully backs “The March for Justice” Demonstration to be organized by National Democratic Congress NDC in respect of the murder of the “Fix The Country” campaigner Kaaka by persons beleived to be bodyguards to Hon. Mohammed Salisu Bamba, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ejura Sekyere Dumasi in the Ashanti Region. As if that is not enough, they sent party soldiers to shoot into the crowd of protesting youth killing two young promising men in the process with four 4 others sustaining several degrees of injuries currently under intensive care at the hospital. This state sponsored thuggery has rather worsened the pains in the heart of Ghanaians following what is gradually becoming a norm rather than the exception.
The infiltration of our once internationally and globally revered security forces- The Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service – with party hoodlums and vigilantes is not only undermining the sanctity of our security forces but also seriously eroding public confidence in and respect to our security forces, a phenomenon that by extension undermines our democratic gains that we have solidly built over these years which earned Ghana global respect and recognition.
The least President Nana Addo-Danquah Akuffo-Addo can serve Ghanaians is continuity on past democratic gains and not a destruction of it and family enrichment.
When people call a Democratically elected Government to fix the country, it is a constitutional right and citizens sole responsibility to demand development for their various communities and no one should die because of a demand for development of his or her area, particularly so when the President, Nana Addo-Danquah Akuffo-Addo in his inaugural speech charged Ghanaians to be “Citizens” and not “Spectators”.
It is therefore only an intolerant, covetous and autocratic government with a dishonest character that can act in the manner that Government of Ghana has conducted itself so far in all matters of security breaches, especially those against the very citizens the government have sworn an oath to protect.
The country has steadily retrogressed in terms of infrastructural development, good democratic governance and freedom of speech thereby heralding a total culture of silence.
Areas that have rather experienced massive progress are deterioration of the country’s bragging rights since President Nana Addo’s government assumed office and Corruption, Judgement debts against the state in favor of his Nephews, Dubious scandals in millions of dollars, State- sponsored terrorism, political intolerance and killing and maiming of innocent Ghanaians at the least protestation even when citizens exercise their right within their constitutional remit.
As a civil society organization that anchors proper democratic principles, ensures good governance, promote the rule of law, fundamental human rights and also fights corruption, we have no qualms about the fact that this current NPP administration led by His Excellency Nana Addo-Danquah Akufo Addo is a big threat to the future of Ghana’s Democracy.
We are therefore urging various youth groups, all opposition political parties, all civil society organizations, Chiefs and Traditional leaders and all foreign diplomats who are friends to Ghana and its democratic progress to join this “March for Justice Demonstration ” slated on 6th July 2021 to demand justice for the departed souls.
Remember the loss of 8 precious souls in the December 2020 elections.
The preamble of the 1992 constitution which the President has sworn an oath to uphold our motherland reads:
The 1992 constitution was adopted, enacted and gives to the “People of Ghana,
IN EXERCISE of our natural and inalienable right to establish a framework of government which shall
secure for ourselves and posterity the blessings of liberty, equality of opportunity and prosperity;
IN A SPIRIT of friendship and peace with all peoples of the world;
AND IN SOLEMN declaration and affirmation of our commitment to;
Freedom, Justice, Probity and Accountability,
The Principle that all powers of Government spring from the Sovereign Will of the People;
The Principle of Universal Adult Suffrage;
The Rule of Law;
The protection and preservation of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms, Unity and Stability for
I pray this will remind Mr. President that the Power he weilds emanates from the very people his government is subjecting them to this endless torture and sorrow.
Let’s end the bloodshed of our beloved citizens.
