Barcelona is still in talks to sign Memphis Depay on a free transfer, although the process has slowed slightly.
The Catalan club had hoped to make the announcement prior of the Netherlands’ first game at Euro 2020 on Sunday night, but that now appears improbable.
Depay’s Netherlands face Ukraine at the Johan Cruyff Arena at 21.00 CEST, and it appears that the forward will not be a Barcelona player when the game begins.
Those within the club, on the other hand, are certain that there will be no replay of the Georginio Wijnaldum situation, in which he was snatched at the last minute by Paris Saint-Germain.
The signing was supposed to be announced last Friday, but difficulties in talks prevented it, and the player also stated that he is completely focused on this summer’s international competition.
He’s a free agent, and a strong showing in the coming weeks could entice further suitors.
Barcelona is not willing to be as flexible with financial negotiations as they were with Wijnaldum, and will not engage in financial wars with rival teams.
Nonetheless, Barcelona is sure that Depay will soon be donning the club’s colors.
