Manchester United is said to have contacted Bruno Fernandes’ agent in regards to Sporting Lisbon’s Nuno Mendes.
During the 2020-21 season, the 18-year-old established himself as a first-team regular for Sporting,
scoring one goal and adding one assist in 29 league appearances to help his team win the Primeira Liga.
Following his breakout season, Mendes is expected to be scouted by top European clubs,
with Manchester City reportedly considering a £52 million bid for the highly regarded teenager.
Man United has now joined the race for Mendes’ signature, and has called his lawyer Miguel Pinho – who also represents Fernandes – to see whether a deal is possible.
Man City are not actively considering a move for the teenager, according to the article, but it will require an offer in excess of £50 million to entice Mendes away from Sporting.
Last year, the left-back, who can also play further up the pitch,
extended his contract with Sporting until the summer of 2025.
