Have you ever asked yourself whether you can schedule for automatic shutdown in windows? The answer is YES and in this article, I’m going to show you 3 methods in which you can do this so that you can choose the one that is convenient for you.
METHOD NUMBER ONE: Press the windows logo + R, then type this “shutdown -s -t n”(please do not add the quotation marks when typing it) where n is the number of seconds you want the computer to last before shutting down. For example, if you want the computer to shutdown in 2 minutes time,we have to convert 2 minutes into seconds, that is n=2*60=120seconds. Therefore, the command will be “shutdown -s -t 120”,press enter after inputting the command and you will see a notification as shown below:
You can click on “close” if you wish but whether you click on “close” or not, your computer will still shutdown at the indicated time.
METHOD NUMBER TWO: In this method, we will be using the command prompt, just go to the start menu, search for command prompt and open it. Now type “shutdown -s -t n”(exclude quotation marks) where n is the number of seconds you want the computer to last before shutting down as discussed in method one.Press the enter key after typing it and you will see a notification as already shown in the screenshot above.
METHOD NUMBER THREE: Please this method can be tricky so pay close attention here.In this method,we will be using the task scheduler,so go to your start menu and search for task scheduler and click to open it.
i) Click on “Create Basic Task” at the top right corner of the task scheduler
ii)Enter any name and description you want to give to this task. For example, Name: auto-shutdown, Description: shutdown automatically, click “Next” when you are done.
iii)Select whether you want your task to be executed Daily,Weekly,Monthly,One time, etc. and click “Next”
iv)Select the actual date and time at which you want the task to be executed and click “Next”
v)Make sure “Start a program” is selected and click on “Next”
vi)Click on “Browse” and enter “shutdown.exe”(exclude quotation marks) at the file name area and click on open.
vii)Enter “-s” as your argument and click on next and you will see as shown below:
viii) I hope you have seen the box which the arrow is pointing to, click on it to tick it and then click on “Finish”.
Now make your required preferences(most especially,at the “conditions” tab):
Click on ok when you are finally done with your preferences and boom!! we have scheduled for automatic shutdown.
