My first call-up to the Black Stars was unexpected – Ghana newcomer Emmanuel Gyasi

Emmanuel Gyasi, a midfielder for Spezia Calcio,

has revealed that he had no contact with the Ghana Football Association [GFA] prior to his first call up.

In March, the 27-year-old received his first call up for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] qualifier against South Africa and Somalia.

In Ghana’s 1-1 draw with the Bafana Bafana at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, he also made his debut.

After that game, Ghana earned automatic qualification for the tournament in Cameroon next year.

“There were some rumors about me, but I had never talked to someone from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) before the call-up,” Gyasi told BBC Sports.

Then I was actually summoned! Ghana is a major footballing nation in Africa,

with tens of thousands of talented players. “I am very pleased with myself.” Gyasi continued.

Coach Charles Akonnor’s squad for the next AFCON in Cameroon is projected to include the Italy native.

Gyasi has been a key player for Spezia since their promotion to Serie A in Italy.
