Pep Guardiola has sent an alert to his Manchester City players about rotation before the end of the season.
City beat Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the weekend,
and will now play Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final at home in midweek.
After being left out of the starting lineup against PSG in the first leg, players like Aymeric Laporte, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Jesus impressed in the Palace game.
Guardiola said of Sterling’s success against Palace after he was dropped for PSG:
“He replied in the Carabao Cup final, one player who played the Carabao Cup final deserved to play in Paris, but I have to have a pick.
It would be unfair to Phil and Riyad if I left them out.”I don’t want to explain my decisions;
I get paid to make them, which I fully appreciate.” Today, Laporte was excellent defensively,
offensively, and in terms of splitting the lines. I understand that he’s sad because he didn’t play in Paris.
He turned up today.”What we do after the season is up to us.
” I rotate a number of players, not just one. Maybe it’s not the best place to be if one guy really wants to play.
I’m at a loss for words. Raheem makes an outstanding contribution;
he may play in the final or for a few minutes, or he may not.
All can play, which is why, for many years, everyone made the effort to be in the role we were in to win many titles.”
