Liverpool are considering paying Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge’s buyout clause.
Despite his side’s poor Premier League season, the 23-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance at times this season and may be available for a bargain this summer.
According to the Athletic, Berge’s deal has a buyout clause that kicks in if the Blades drop to the Championship,
theoretically allowing Liverpool to retain his services without having to go through lengthy club negotiations.
United’s imminent relegation is unlikely to discourage the Reds,
who signed Gini Wijnaldum from Newcastle while the Magpies were on the verge of being relegated.
According to the Daily Express,
Jurgen Klopp is a known admirer of the Norwegian international, who was first brought to his attention during Liverpool’s Champions League victory over Genk two years ago.
