This May Day it was both an honour and great inspiration to celebrate Matilda Tsinogo, an officer of the Ghana Fire Service and a beloved constituent.
She is the extraordinarily brave firefighter who made waves last Tuesday when as the only female and leader of an otherwise all-male team, they successfully saved the Mankessim Market from total destruction to the amazement of onlookers.
From her commanding post in Mankessim, she is inspiring young girls everywhere and proving that there’s nothing like a man’s job.
When I placed a congratulatory call to her on Wednesday and she indicated that she will be attending an aunt’s funeral in our holy Aveyime this weekend, I thought I should offer her a modest May Day surprise. So I today presented her with a laptop, a token amount of GHS3,000.00 and a full scholarship for her daughter in first year at a public university.
We are deeply proud of her and all modern Yaa Asantewaas in their chosen field of work.
Happy May Day to all our gallant workers.
