Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that Alexandre Lacazette and Kieran Tierney are unlikely to be ready in time for the Europa League semi-final second leg against Villarreal on Thursday.
Tierney and Lacazette did not make the cut after the Gunners boss said
that both of his players were in contention for last week’s first leg.
Neither player was passed fit for Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle United,
and Arteta was unable to provide an update on their absences when asked.
“They haven’t practiced with us yet,” Arteta told Sky Sports News,
“so it is very doubtful that they will be ready in the next few games.
“With the Gunners’ second goal at St James’ Park, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang returned to the starting lineup,
but David Luiz’s comeback was cut short due to a suspected hamstring injury.
Arsenal welcome Villarreal to the Emirates Stadium after losing the first leg 2-1 in Spain.
Manu Trigueros and Raul Albiol scored for the Gunners, but Nicolas Pepe’s penalty kept their hopes of reaching the final alive.
