Alhaji Karim Grusah has ruled out CK Akonnor leading the Black Stars to victory in Cameroon’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon]. The Ghana Football Association [GFA] has tasked Akonnor, 46, with ending Ghana’s 39-year drought in the Afcon tournament.
Ghana has come close to winning the trophy three times, but has failed to do so in 1992, 2010, and 2015. Ghana’s last trophy was won in Libya in 1982.
However, the football administrator believes that with a coach like Charles Kwablah Akonnor, there is no need to invest $25 million in the Black Stars because he [Akonnor] would not be able to lead Ghana to the coveted trophy.
He told Kumasi FM, “I’m a Ghanaian, I can’t help Burkina Faso or any other country other than Ghana, but this coach has nothing better to lead our team to the trophy.”
If the government keeps CK Akonnor as the Black Stars’ head coach, Alhaji Grusah believes the government will be wasting money.
“I believe we can win the trophy, but not with this coach; Ghana needs a white coach because football is run by rational thinkers, as you know,” he concluded.
