General corporal Kwasi Yeboah of the Kadjebi police command has been sentenced for 30 month imprisonment for dangerous cycling and causing harm leading to the death of Gabriel Azilaku by the Ho circuit court.
The police pleaded not guilty but has been jailed after a three year trial of the case by one Mr.Felix Datsomor who found him guilty of the case.
He was sentenced on count one for 30 months in prison and count two with hard labour.Tue sentences are to run simultaneously.
Yakubu Ayamga told the court that ,the complainant Emmanuel Awuku was an elderly brother of the deceased ,while the convict was a police officer stationed at Kadjebi and now at Tefle Sogakope in the Volta region of Ghana.
He said on 8th August, 2018,Azilaku was riding his motor bike with some goods on it,pass the police station, upon the policeman seeing the man thought Azilaku was carrying illegal goods.
The officer who was on duty chased him,upon getting closely to him hit his motor from behind who got collided with an oncoming motorbike and sustained injuries on the head that caused his death.
The police officer upon realizing that, went away and left the two people who got collided on the motorbikes.
Tue matter was reported to the police station and was later on sent to court.
