According to Transfer Market Web, Chelsea are in pole position to sign Paris Saint-Germain youngster Kays Ruiz-Atil,
who is also wanted by Barcelona.
Ruiz-Atil, 18, has been with PSG since 2015, after spending six years at Barcelona’s renowned La Masia youth academy.
After rising through the ranks at the French capital club, the central midfielder broke into the first team this season,
making seven appearances under former manager Thomas Tuchel.
Ruiz-Atil, on the other hand, has been out of the first-team picture since the turn of the year because he
and PSG were unable to reach an agreement on a new deal. Currently training with the reserves,
the 18-year-contract old’s will expire at the end of the current season, and he will be eligible for a free transfer.
Several clubs across Europe have shown interest in signing the teenager, with Chelsea being one of them.
The Blues have always had a proclivity for signing talented young players from across Europe,
and while those players were typically farmed out on loan season after season before they finally left the club, that has changed in recent years.
Mason Mount, Reece James, and Tammy Abraham have all successfully transitioned from the academy to the first team,
while Billy Gilmour and Tino Anjorin are among the many others waiting in the wings to make an impact.
So, given his talent and the fact that current manager Tuchel has seen it firsthand and gave him his PSG debut, the interest in Ruiz-Atil shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Barcelona, Ruiz-former Atil’s club, is also interested in re-signing him for the coming season.
Since losing him six years ago, the Catalans have kept track of his success and are working to get the 18-year-old back to the club when his contract with PSG expires.
Given the success of players like Pedri, Ilaix Moriba, Ansu Fati, and Oscar Mingueza in the first team under Ronald Koeman,
Barcelona appears to be motivated to invest in talent, as evidenced by their interest in Jon Karrikaburu
and Fabio Blanco, among others, and Ruiz-Atil emerging as a viable transfer target.
Aside from these two teams, OGC Nice of Ligue 1 has also been linked with a move for the 18-year-old. However,
the report adds that Chelsea are in advanced negotiations with the player and his camp over a summer move, meaning
Barcelona could end up facing defeat in their bid to re-sign Ruiz-Atil.
