Tweenager – Part 4

The principal’s words bounced off my eardrums repeatedly. With each reverberation, my heartbeat quickened. “Expulsion,” I thought to myself, “I was getting expelled when I had never even received detention.”. My knees felt weak, ready to give way under me. My hair was damp against my temple – the heat was finally getting to me. The day that started with the perfect sunrise was ending with the most disastrous storm I had ever seen, and it was only the first day of the first trimester. Guess being an emotional kid with a bad temper who is overly conscious of a grade is borderline catastrophic. I had to fix this. Expulsion is not an option. I loved this school – despite it being for snobs like Karen – it was pretty awesome.
“But sir,” I started, “I didn’t mean to.”, I said in a pleading tone. ” I am sorry, Sir. I seriously did not mean to hurt her. It was an accident. Please reconsider your decision. Please don’t expel me; please, Mr. Chapeau.”. Despite my tone, my failed expression of ‘puppy dog eyes’ – Karen seriously has a talent for this; it’s so difficult to fake emotions – and the additional pouting, Mr. Chapeau just glared at me. “Well, you should have thought of that before you turned my office into a boxing ring.” he yapped. That wasn’t the response I was hoping for, but to be honest, my performance wasn’t that convincing either.
I was sorry for what I did. However, I couldn’t display those feelings to my principal because I wasn’t entirely remorseful. I did regret having done the deed in the principal’s office. That was simply unforgivable; I mean, that was plain disrespect. I wasn’t particularly feeling contrite about breaking Karen’s nose; she deserved it big time, plus it felt good. I should even be given a medal for that; I did the whole school service putting the nosiest kid out of business. Speaking of Karen, she was on her way to the school clinic in the arms of a quarterback. Her clique of girls followed her, all trying desperately to do anything that would get them into her good graces. Ugh, pathetic. I caught her eye as she got to the office door. With a hand still holding her bleeding nose, she smirked and winked at me. The nerve of that witch?! There’s nowhere beneath this earth that I am sorry for what I did to her.
I turned my attention back to Mr. Chapeau, who was pacing now. Miss Hyperbole was also still in the office, tapping her feet rapidly, and her eloquent hand lay lightly on top of her forehead with her eyes closed. Poor woman. She must have been feeling horrible after all this all started with her. She was strict when it came to her exams; on her good days, she was delightful. What was I doing worrying about my teacher? She wasn’t the one about to be expelled. How was I going to convince Mr. Chapeau that I regretted creating the scene in his office?
“Vanessa Summers, you’ve been expelled.” Mr. Chapeau said, coming to a stop in front of his desk, ” What are you still doing in my school?’. “But Mr. Chapeau, I didn’t mean-” I let out. ” My decision is final, Miss Summers. I expect you out of my school in the next five minutes and tell your parents to wait for my call.” He replied with finality. From the look on his face, I could tell there was no way to change his mind. I gave a resigned sign and slowly started toward the door. Halfway down the road of my doom, Miss Hyperbole shouted, “Stop, Nessa. You’ve been re-accepted.”. “Excuse me? Why is that? And how dare you rescind my decision?” Mr. Chapeau stated with shock and ire in his voice. Well, this had to be good.
