Sekondi High Court Fines Joe Ghartey 4,000 cedis

Grace Ayensu Versus Joe Ghartey in Parliamentary elections results.

The Sekondi High Court presided over by Dr Richmond Osei Hwere has directed the member of Parliament to pay a fine of 4k. The former railway minister cum current Essikado Ketan member of Parliament. Serving as a respondent in a case filed against him by Dr Grace Ayensu.

Dr Grace Ayensu was the parlimentary candidate of NDC in Essikado Ketan Constituency. She filed a suit against the incumbent Joe Ghartey for alledged vote stealing. With the first hearing held on 16th March , Frank Davies lawyer for the respondent argued that the suit lacks merit because it was signed by the petitioner’s lawyer instead of her.

However the court on 23rd March ruled that lawyers act as clients and have vested rights to act on behalf of their clients Including signing of documents etc. In respect of that, Hon Joe Ghartey has been fine to the tune of 4,000 cedis and case ajourned.

The Essikado Ketan Seat which was fiercely contested in 2020 still remains relevant to both Political parties . The outcome could change the situation in Parliament. If Joe Ghartey looses the case. Parliament now has 137 seats to each cucus.

Meanwhile we now await final judgement. Fractions of the NDC fraternity are jubilant. The fact that the fine is an indication that Joe Ghartey didn’t win the elections. On the contrary the NPP folks are warning the National Democratic Congress to desist from pre judgement. They claim the case is rather about to start than ending.
