Why worry if Jane Mensa’s declaration will not increase Mahama’s votes? – Dr Apaak tells Gabby

Dr. Merciful Abas Apaak, the Member of Parliament for Builsa South has taken Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko to the cleaners for asking if the cross-examination of Mrs. Jean Mensa will add votes to that of former President John Dramani Mahama.

The legislator is quizzing why the lawyer would be bothered by the cross-examination of the Electoral Commissioner who has decided not to testify in the ongoing election petition.

He placed that the EC Chair could be hiding something from Ghanaians thus her refusal to testify.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, February 13, 2021, Gabby asked why the lawyers for the petitioner, John Mahama, have been so bent on getting the EC seat into the observer box before they can appropriately present their defense.

“The conditions are totally different. In 2013, John Mahama won by 5,574,761 votes and that was 50.7%. Akufo-Addo got 5,248,898 that was 47.74%. In request for John Mahama to dip under the half edge, you expected to remove 77,131 from them – simply that. The contrast between Akufo-Addo and John Mahama was 325,863.

“What was the proof introduced before the court? The petitioner said that there were in excess of 2 million copy pink sheets, which then goes to the core of the authenticity of the elections. And afterward they talked about polling stations that they didn’t know about. That additionally goes to the believability of the outcomes from those regions. They talked about over-voting in 1722 polling stations. The spoke about voting without biometric confirmation and when you take a gander at all these, the aggregate, in any event, when you assume control over-voting alone, that would have dropped John Mahama down.

“At the point when you take voting without check alone, that would have dropped John Mahama below half. So there were every one of these issues. By all accounts, if the Electoral Commissioner at that point, was to choose for say that I am not going to go into the observer box, that would have been self-destructive.

“In any case, for this situation, you are talking about under 5000 votes that you are challenging. That is all it is. Anyway, assuming Jean Mensa goes to the case, will her declaration add to John Mahama’s votes or detract from Akufo-Addo’s votes? Also, how will that help them?” he inquired.

Reacting to the remarks, Dr. Apaak said the refusal of the EC seat to mount the observer box raises doubt.

He was of the view that if there was nothing to cover up or nothing to fear, the EC seat should mount the observer box and testify.

“Gabby, if Jean Mensa being in the observer box will not add to John Mahama’s votes, then why are you stressed? The refusal of Jean Mensa, the Returning Officer, to testify raises serious suspicions. On the off chance that there is nothing to stow away, there ought to be nothing to fear! “
