Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of the 8th Parliament has expressed massive gratitude to the NDC MPs for elevating him to such a prestigious position.
Alban Bagbin revealed that he had established an Institute of Parliamentary Affairs – Africa after he had decided not to contest as a member of Parliament again to offer teachings on parliamentary affairs when it appeared to him that he stood a chance of becoming the Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
He told the Former President John Dramani Mahama at a symposium held in memory of JJ. Rawlings that he had the hope that he was going to win though he could not sleep.
“I couldn’t sleep, but some spirit descended on me that I was going to win. That was why that day I promised you that we will win this battle,” he said.
Bagbin further added that “the God who started it all, will accomplish it”.
In a contest between Alban Bagbin and former Speaker, Mike Ocquaye, Bagbin emerged the elected Speaker for the 8th Parliament on Thursday, January 7, 2020.
The election was characterized by chaos leading to the invasion of the legislative house by military personnel.
