Bernard Antwi Bosiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) alias Chairman Wontumi has fueled the anger of the residents of Amanchia-Esaase areas of the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality in the Ashanti Region after an abandoned road project awarded to his company claimed three lives and rendered many others injured.
According to the residents, the road has become a death zone having killed at least three people rendering several others injured including a police officer.
The residents who angrily called into Akoma FM’s ‘GhanAkoma’ morning show on Monday, January 25, described to the host, Aduanaba Kofi how bad and risky the abandoned road is.
Francis Asante, Vice Chairman of Nkawie Taxi Rank voiced out the frustrations of the residents and road users saying;
“We are tired of this situation because more than three people have died on this road. If you are a new driver on this road, the possibility of driving into the death traps is very high.”
Francis Asante narrated how a police officer who was using the road while riding a bike fell into an uncovered pit and broke his left leg.
The angry residents have vowed to resort to demonstration if the road is not worked on.
Chairman Wontumi has admitted that his company was indeed awarded the contract but also added that the project delayed due to non-payment of funds by government.
“The project delayed due non-payment of funds from government, so I will plead with the residents to exercise restraint as I know right after the ministerial vetting, funds will be arranged and work will commence,” he said.
