Sarah Adwoa Sarfo, Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya Constituency has denied charges that she voted against the former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye on December 7 at the legislative house thereby betraying the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Names of Members of Parliament circulating on social media suspected to have betrayed the NPP included Adwoa Sarfo’s name.
Social media users who subscribed to this claim were of the view that Adwoa Sarfo failed to vote Mike Oquaye to exercise revenge after the son of the former Speaker of Parliament contested with her in the parliamentary primaries.
In reacting to the allegation in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh, Adwoa Sarfo said, “I think we feel betrayed. We are all surprised about the outcome of the election and as a parliamentary group. I think that reorganizing ourselves to see how we will be able to carry out government business when the need arises is what is important.”
Touching on which party currently has the majority seats in Parliament, she said it is the NPP because they have the MP for Formena on their side and he is now the Second Deputy of proceedings Speaker of the house.
“I think whether it was proposed by the NDC or NPP, you saw where the Member of Parliament sat on the day of proceedings and he sat on the side of the NPP and for me, that is a clear indication of where his loyalty and allegiance is. Moving forward there a number of seats that are being withheld. We believe by the close of all these court cases there will be an outcome that will give us more majority seats than we have.”
