The Progressive People’s Party (PPP), one of the political parties contesting for this year’s election which is about two weeks away, happens to have made a shocking comment on radio today. The Vice presidential candidate of the party, Mr. Kofi Asamoah-Siaw has stated that the Basic Education Certificate Examination referred commonly as BECE is “useless” therefore, it’ll be scrapped off should they be voted into power by Ghanaians in the December 7 election. Mr. Asamoah-Siaw made this statement on Rainbow radio – 87.5FM.
He moreover continued to say that the party will make sure all Ghanaian students are educated to at least the Senior High School level. Thus, the party if in governance would implement Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education for all to increase access to education in the country. He further argued that the current basic school certificate has lost it’s relevance and therefore is useless. Instead, Senior High School Diploma Exams would be the very first exams every student would sit in Ghana.
Progressively, he said that the PPP is going to continue the free education initiative especially the Free SHS. He also made it clear that the party would construct free community model schools for pupils. However, students who would want to go to boarding schools would have their parents pay for the cost. He undoubtedly didn’t forget to urge all Ghanaians to vote the PPP into power in bringing his message to an end.
