The Black Stars have managed to make headlines again but not for a good reason this time around. Well , they are in the news for something which several sports personalities in the media have described as “SHAMEFUL”.
About two weeks ago , coach CK Akonnor called upon a squad depth of 23 men which included some old faces such as Baba Rahman , Wakasu Mubarak , John Boye and co back into the senior national team . Unfortunately , some of these players have turned down the opportunity to represent the great republic .
Players such as Thomas Partey (injury) , Lawelling (uncertained on his call up) , Wakasu Mubarak (flight issues ) won’t be avaible for the clash against Sudan on Thursday at the cape coast multi-purpose sports stadium .
Due to this , coach Charles Kobina Akonnor has called upon certain crop of players into the national team . Players like Theophilus Aboagye (Mexico ) , Prince Adu Poku (Bechem United) have been called on to replace the unavailable crop of players .
Well , an unpleasant incident has happened involving the coach (CK Akonnor) , some technical members , some GFA staff and Prince Adu Poku . The player was ealier called into the squad due to the unfortunate circumatances but it seems there has been some-what of a miscommunication somewhere or is it??
Prince Adu Poku was absolutely phenomenal for Bechem United in the disbanded league playing fourteen games , finding the net on nine occassions with four assists . He his exceptionally clinical infront of goal and can also juggle the ball . So with this I’d sa he is a complete in and out striker .His stunning performance has earned him a national U20 call up .
The above paragraph was just to show how good he is (By the way) .
The real issue at hand is the fact that that he was called up to the black stars but was sent home immidiately at the teams hotel with no credible reason . He wasn’t even granted a proper invite like other players but his call up had to go through his U20 coach which in the first place , is absolutely disrepectful to any professional player. Sacking a player of his calibre from the National team without a credible reason is absolutely reckless of the Black Stars management and the GFA as well.
News spread like fire and news reaching us is that , prior to his call up , there was an argument in camp qhich had to do with a top GFA member and the national team coach. The coach was being quizzed as to whom instruted him to call Adu Poku into the national team . This top official then authorised the coach to send the boy back and out of the camp which the coach did as soon as the boy arrived .
Who could this top GFA official be ? Isn’t CK bold enough to call shots in the team ? Is he being controlled?
Honestly , I think the National team has grown beyond the stage where coaches are being dictated to . CK should be allowed to make and take full responsibility of the team . This system has to be stopped as soon as possible .
Thank you . Stay tuned for more
