Prempeh College Wins World Robofest Competition 2020 And Sets A Record

Prempeh College is a public secondary boarding school for boys located in Kumasi, the capital city of the Ashanti Region, Ghana. The school was established by the Asanteman traditional authority in 1949. They are nicknamed Amanfuo and their motto is “Suban ne Nimde3”.

This year was a fruitful year for four time NSMQ champions , as they were eliminated from the quarterfinals stage by Achimota SHS in Greater Accra.

Prempeh College is known for their endeavors and brilliance in the field of science and technology.

Just recently, a competition which is World Robofest competition was held virtually which started on the 1st October, 2020. The Robofest competition is held every year just as the NSMQ competition.

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, students and teachers of various schools weren’t allowed to travel to the place of the competition to be held there.

What is Robofest?

Robofest is an educational programme organized for various secondary schools all across the globe to exhibit their talent in science.

Missions of the Robofest

(1) to generate excitement and interest among young people for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Art, and Computer Science.

 (2) to develop problem solving skills so as creative thinking, teamwork and communication skills.

(3) to prepare younger people to excel in higher education and technological careers.

Last year , Team Acrobot from the Methodist Girls SHS in the Eastern region won the competition.

This year’s competition was held virtually which kicked start on 1st October. The competition was held via the Zoom app. After various stages in competition, the team from Prempeh College were pronounced and emerged as this year’s winner of the Robofest competition. Prempeh College now stands and has set the record as the only secondary school in Ghana, West Africa and Africa as a whole to win the World Robofest for two times.

They first won the World Robofest Competition in 2016. Team MIKOGOLF from PC won this year’s competition. Also, two teams also from PC, namely AGYENGOGOLF and EDDYGOLF placed 3rd and 5th respectively. Lastly, one of Ghana’s junior teams named MOMAGOLF from Mount Olives placed 3rd in the Junior Category of the championship/ competition.

Congratulations to Team MIKOGOLF from Prempeh College for winning the World Robofest Competition 2020 and also putting Ghana on the globe.
