This is why John Mahama shouldn’t try Akufo Addo in anyway for his own interests.

Ghanaian elections have always been a two horse race between the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, since the inception of the fourth republic no other party has been able to rise to the occasion to match these two parties.

Jerry John Rawlings led the National Democratic Congress to a victory in the 1992 and 1996 election. John Agyekum Kuffour led the New Patriotic Party to victory in the 2000 and 2004 election respectively.

John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama took charge again on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress again in 2008 and 2012 election respectively.

President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo returned the New Patriotic Party to power again in 2016.
Economic Performance

The late professor John Evans Atta Mills did a splendid job in improving the Economy left by President Kuffour.

Ghana’s economy was already booming with a quadrupled GDP of $28 billion dollars as at 2008. Professor Mills did impressive job by increasing the GDP to $47 billion in 2011 that was when the country had discovered oil in commercial quantities.
The GDP was regrettably reversed to $40 billion by John Dramani Mahama as at October 2016.
The late Mills through hard work left an economy that was growing at 14% but this growth saw a sharp decrease from 14% to 3.4% during the tenure of John Dramani Mahama.
In Agriculture, Late professor Mills left a growing agriculture of 7.5% in 2012 but John Mahama could only manage with 2.5% as at October 2016.
The famous single digits inflation by professor Mills was returned back to double digits (15.4%) as at October 2016.
The exchange rate around 2011 was Ghc 1.6 to $1 but as at December 2016, John Dramani Mahama left it at GHC 4.25 to $1.
The single digits inflation and the budget deficits doubled historically as at December 2016.
Kuffour left a debt of GHC 9.5 billion but this was regrettably ballooned to GHC 122.4 billion as at December 2016.

The 2020 election is a battle that will be fiercely faught between the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress because the NDC will be presenting a candidate who is also a former president to contest an incumbent president.
These two candidates have their weaknesses and their strength when it comes to their competence because they have all had the opportunity to ascend the Presidential seat.

Three months to the 2020 election, it can clearly be seen that the incumbent president is very optimistic about his chances in the 2020 general election.
The President has tremendous records in social intervention like the one district one factory, free shs, planting for food and jobs, one village one dam etc and the various Covid-19 relieves given to the citizenry, it seems the National Democratic Congress has been successful in holding the president and the New Patriotic Party accountable on their campaign promises in 2016.

The opposition National Democratic Congress has virtually discredited the government’s one village one dam projects in the five northern regions.
The NDC held a press conference to debunk the assertion that the government is constructing dams when in actual facts the said dams were dag outs with no water stored in them, the sector minister made it public that these claims by the NDC is neither here nor there.

With the Free SHS policy, the opposition has been consistent with their criticism of the double track policy which they claim to be aiding in the production of half baked graduates, but this assertion has been shot down by experts who believe given the circumstances that is the most brilliant of options to explore.
With infrastructural development, the opposition NDC has constantly bastardized the New Patriotic Party headed by Nana Addo of achieving very little in infrastructural development. This move made the vice president to counter the opposition claims with some developmental projects through a town hall meeting held in Accra.
The National Democratic Congress is yet to presented an undeniable evidence to show that in fact some projects that were captured in the presentation were not in existence.
It is not for any reason that president Akuffo Addo has started cutting sod for an avalanche of projects prior to the 2020 election, which shows that his next focus will be in Infrastructure should he win the 2020 Election.
The focus of the president is widely felt despite the constant pressure from the National Democratic Congress and the possibility of the president to loose his seat in the 2020 election.
But the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama is not spared of the election heat.
Happenings in the previous weeks seem to suggest that, John Dramani Mahama is in a dilemma.
The former president has been subjected to morality test after the outburst of some actresses.
The circumstances that led to the postponement of the National Democratic Congress manifesto launch before it was formerly launched last week has further aggravated the notion that there is a confusion in the National Democratic Congress and the flagbearer as well.
One can however not tell whether the Dilemma is as a result of the feeling of loosing an election or things are not just right in the party.
But given the performance of the president in just four years, and looking at the economic Performance of John Dramani Mahama, It is clear that John Mahama cannot win an economic debate against Akuffo Addo.
