Police at Drobo charged a 38-year-old mother for reportedly dumping her day-old baby boy in a public toilet at Baateakwa, in the Bono region’s Jaman South Municipality.
The lady, Akua Serwaa, who has been moved to the Berekum Police Command since then, has been arraigned and will reappear on August 27.
Emmanuel Nketia, the Baateakwa electoral district assembly member, said he had details about 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning that a day-old baby was dumped in a public toilet in his town.
He said that he and other members of the committee had to demolish the toilet to save the child who is currently responding to treatment at a Baano Number One clinic.
However, the evidence gathered showed that, when her husband was away in Dubai, Akua Serwaa committed the crime, since the baby was born in an illegitimate affair.
She wanted to throw the unborn baby in a public bathroom, to escape embarrassment and general mockery.
For his part, Deputy Police Superintendent, Frankline Yevugah, Berekum Police Command’s Divisional Crime Officer, announced the detention at the Ghanaian Times, suggesting that what the suspect is suspected of is contrary to the law, which will follow its course.
