The governing NPP’s national youth organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, described the National Democratist Congress’ largest opposition as a hypocritical player, as wanting to see women progress to political leadership with the announcement of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as John Dramani Mahama’s Running Mate.
Compared to him, the high point of political pretence is the praise-chanting following the declaration of Mr. Mahama ‘s former Education Minister as a partner for this election this year.
For an example, he cited the treatment of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the first lady, that the NDC not only denied her the chance to lead the party for presidential candidate .. But she went on a rampage that made her name “greedy” and “Delilah” in Rawling ‘s story.
FONKAR And GAME Revisited
The intra-party murmurings in the then ruling NDC became violent as the party’s presidential appointments were endorsed somewhere in2011 by two factions.
It is the origin of the so-called FONKAR and GAME.
The Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings (FONKAR) pro-Rawlings Party endorsed the nomination of Nana Konadu Agyemang-rawlings and was called Get Atta Mills Endorsed (GAME) by the anti-Rawlings Block backed by then-Chairman John Evans Atta Mills.
The Ghana Electoral Commission of Ghana, which supervised the 2011 NDC Primary, declared that John Evans Atta Mills was overwhelmingly humiliating Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings with 96.9 percent of votes cast for the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) during the general elections in 2012.
President Mills had 2,771 votes of 96.9% and Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings had 90 votes of 3.1%.
A total of 2866 valid votes cast, five rejected votes declared by the EC.
When Nana B spoke at the morning show “Ade Akye Abia” in Okay FM, he is popularly recognized and wondered why the sudden change to praise and placed women at the top level already in this country.
“But if the NDC celebrates women today, it will turn its mind away, and if it is apologizing, it will return it to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. She was disgraced when she challenged to be a presidential candidate, calling all sorts of names. He said that, despite being the wife of the party founder, she was selfish and greedy, “he said.
Why is Mrs. Rawlings not a choice?
He reiterated that, in addition to the ranking mates of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the NDC flagship slot was used to raise women ‘s trust in the political sector and was, sadly, viewed as a castaway.
For him, if the NDC had allowed Mr Rawlings to fight for this role unhindered, the NDC would have been prideful if that had been a first.
“What happened to this gorgeous woman? They mocked her; they hooted at her when her name was mentioned when the NDC was having their congress in Sunyani. During the congress, she was chased out of Cape Coast Town Hall as she was heading on a ‘Thank-You Tour’ in the Central Region and the place was locked up and she couldn’t meet anyone,” he recalled.
Therefore, he described as shameful, the sudden praise-singing by some gender groups that the opposition party is promoting women to take part in politics at the highest level, when a few years ago a virtuous woman was severely denigrated and verbally assaulted for trying to lift the NDC political ladder.
“… Where were those people when Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was bastardized and insulted; someone whose house was built by the NDC and someone whose husband with his blood signed the party constitution? What hast thou done to her? Were you encouraging the lady?
