Few hours of the launch of Ghana’s first-ever GH COVID-19 Tracker, a renowned Artificial Intelligence Engineer, Researcher, Lecturer & PolicyExpert and Data Scientist, Darlington Akogo, expressed his disappointment in the government for outsourcing the contract to a foreign company on his Facebook timeline

So the Ghanaian government just launched an app for self-assessment and symptoms reporting called Gh COVID-19 Tracker, which is great. My challenge here is that they seem to have contracted iQuent Technologies, an American software company, and Ascend Digital Solutions, if that’s by any chance this (, then it’s a non-Ghanaian digital marketing company (hopefully am wrong).

Why do we continue doing such things? Quite a number of Ghanaian software developers had already developed symptom assessment and reporting platforms, they reached to the Ghanaian government to work with them.

This app is not Quantum Computing for you to imply local talents couldn’t implement it and justify the need for some random American company. In such tough times, countries are looking at how to leverage their local talents and experts, yet we are still only trying to work with Westerners on the simplest of tasks. This is disgraceful!
